The taupe ground of this Kerman carpet from southeast Persia displays a 17th century Kerman pattern of lobed cartouches enclosing palmettes, smaller diagonal palmettes, and vines and vases. The narrow border is original to the archetype and displays small “artichokes” and lancet leaves.
