A pattern employing three distinct motifs covers the field of this fine antique Persian kilim rug. The lozenge-shaped ivory central medallion displays a close textile pattern of colorful flowers. It overlays a dark blue ground densely filled with small botehs. A third design is in the corners: a vertical rainbow stripe with various scrolling vines and discrete flowers, the so- called “cane” pattern. The ivory main and minor borders are en suite with palmettes and diagonal leaves.
Unusually, there is a band of dark brown wool along with the cotton warps. The pattern wefts are all wool and the palette is all natural. The slit tapestry weave is close and regular. This attractive antique Senneh kilim rug will make a fine wall hanging or table cover for a discerning client.
