The Feraghan-Sarouk rug is a product of the 1880-1910 period and is a village weaving executed without scale paper cartoons, resulting in an angular rendition of vines, palmettes, rosettes and leaves, as in this extremely fine antique western Persian rug with a madder rose field and extremely well-developed light blue corners. All the decoration is in the same scale and the tendrils of medallion, field and corners are independent and contained in their respective sections. The somewhat simplified navy border of in and out palmettes connected by a thick, undulating vine is classic for antique Sarouk-Feraghans of this period. Sarouk-Ferahan rugs are uncommon and formed a transition to the more common American-style Sarouks woven in the 1920’s and later.
