The Heriz district has long been a source of room sized carpets is a variety of weave qualities and patterns. This Heriz carpet has a particularly fine weave and excellent quality, resilient, firm pile. The pistachio green color is most unusual. The bands of abrash near the bottom and top of the field balance and appear original. The pattern is composed of vertically oriented outline cartouches filled with palmettes, rosettes, leaves and vines. These vines form a secondary lozenge lattice. The pattern seems unique to the carpet and may have been drawn by a Tabriz designer as a special order. The red main border has the even popular Heriz rosette and bent leaf pattern, particularly popular in the 1880 to 1915 period.
The pile is clipped low and nearly approximates that on city carpets of the period, rather than the more shaggy wool of less distinguished Heriz carpets. Although this carpet is over 100 years old, it is very healthy and is ready for another century of delight to its next owner.

This Heriz was in the collection of the accomplished actor Dustin Hoffman where it was appreciated for its beauty and quality of execution.
