The bold split arabesque pattern overlies a dark woven angular floral vine design, all on an ecru field. The major strapwork terminates at each end of the field in striking winged palmette. There is a small central rosette positioning the overall layout, and full and half palmettes figures prominently along the central axis and on the sides of this antique Persian rug. The powerful red “turtle” and curved leaf main border barely contains the energy of the field which seems to flow underneath. This piece is a fine example of the particularly high quality village carpets produce in the Heriz area in the first quarter of the 20th century
