Antique Tabriz Rug – 291020

This Tabriz carpet has a five column offset rectangular panel pattern. The panels enclose  garden trees, vases and architectural  elements. Each panel has its own ground tone and there is no overall  field colour. Ivory, midnight and sapphire blue and salmon are among the individual colours. The pattern is a clever variant on the popular garden design. The offsetting, rather than a strict gridwork is unusual. The panel pattern is symmetric around a central vertical axis, but there is no horizontal symmetry. The rust main border alternates cartouches and octofoils. As in all Tabriz carpets, the pile is short and firm, and the weave is medium fine.
