Southwest Caucasus last quarter 19 century
The “eagle” design is probably the most popular and recognizable of all antique Caucasian rug patterns.
In this high pile example exactly two ivory stellate medallions closely fill the field, with narrow “claw” design strips above and below. There are virtually no small devices to divert attention from the main motives. The ivory border is in the classic star and bar pattern .in Kazak rug #121001 the medallions are both green, while here they alternate dark blue with green. In # 121001 animals people or stylizes flower are scattered about while here the design is more austere. This extremely attractive iconic antique Karabagh rug is in excellent condition with original side cores and saturated dye palette.
