Kerman rugs from southeast Persia look like no other carpets. The dark blue field of the example centers a four lobed red medallion and associated pendants, enclosed by en suite corners. The variety of flowers, both real and imaginary, is too much to describe. Four borders employing variants on the forked arabesque theme enclose the whole.
