Tabriz carpets, from Azerbaijan province in northwest Persia, are among the most formal and artistically disciplined of all roomsized rugs. This finely woven piece layers an eight point medallion on a brick macro pendanted medallion with a dense herati pattern and matches it with en suite corners containing quarter medallions. The ivory field displays a one way pattern of reversing botehs. All the borders are in filigree style, the main surround having rosettes, stiff leaves and wiry connecting vines. As with all quality Tabriz carpets, the pile is clipped low to better display the elaborate design. The weave is fine and precise. The drawing is symmetric, even and admits of no irregularities. This carpet works exceptionally well with any formal decorative scheme.;
